60th Anniversary Celebrations
Please see below links for further information and booking form!
The SP250 was launched at the New York Motor Show in the spring of 1959 and we shall be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of that landmark event on Friday, 14th & Saturday, 15th June 2019.
We will be holding a Dinner at the St. Johnâ™s Hotel, Solihull on the Friday evening and a Rally at the Ragley Hall Estate on the Saturday. Dinner places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
We have obtained the use of a 1944 Daimler double decker bus and this will ferry those who have pre-paid to the Coventry Transport Museum on the Friday. The bus has accommodation for 56 people only and seats will be allocated on a “first come, first servedâ basis, although it may be possible for it to make a second trip. Timings will be arranged to enable visitors to have a reasonable period at the museum which contains the world’s largest public collection of British vehicles, including the late Queen Maryâ™s personal Daimler dating from 1935, a Daimler armoured car from 1943 and a Daimler wagonette from 1897/8. This wagonette was rebuilt in the 1960s by Daimler apprentices, among them John Box, who had been involved in the development and testing of the prototype SP250 and who plans to be joining us at the Dinner. Several high-profile speakers have been booked.
After breakfast on the Saturday morning, we move on to Ragley. We will have exclusive use of this magnificent property, full details of the house, grounds and gardens can be found on their website www.ragley.co.uk The grounds are dog-friendly (on a lead because of livestock) and food will be available, both in the restaurant and at a barbeque. Cars will enter the estate through the main entrance and those exhibiting the pre-paid sticker will by-pass the pay booth by the indicated route and will be directed to our area in front of the Hall. The first 60 or so cars will be arranged in a diamond format, as befits the occasion, and subsequent arrivals will be arranged to form an encompassing box. We plan to take aerial photographs of the cars, showing the Hall in the background. We are hoping to have the biggest ever gathering of SPs here and your support will be very much appreciated. Please complete the booking form as soon as possible and return it to Glyn Overy at the address shown. Barry Thorne Glyn Overy Laurence Jones Celebration Organisers.
